Puss drenched with hydraulic fluid from SkyRail works

A pet cat has been drenched with hydraulic fluid which sprayed into her owner's backyard from Skyrail construction taking place just 20 centimetres away.

Catherine Pendelich said she was shocked to find the industrial liquid had landed on her snoozing cat and the garden of her home in Carnegie in Melbourne's south-east.

Ms Pendelich feared her maine coon, Puss, would need to be sedated and shaved but ended up being able to clean the kitty with organic dishwashing detergent.

'The oily fluid was on her underbelly and she was licking at it, we were calling vets in a panic looking for somewhere that could help us deal with it,' she said.

'One vet said they would put her under for the procedure but luckily we were able to clean Puss ourselves.'

The spillage came from a straddle carrier as it was lifting a 420-tonne span, and soaked Ms Pendelich's deck and pergola.

The incident is one of three which have occurred in recent weeks on what Ms Pendelich described as a 'huge construction project'.
