Police searching for a 27-year-old woman who disappeared on Saturday afternoon have recovered a body in the area where she was last seen.

Naima Hassan was last seen at a BP petrol station in Wellington Point in Brisbane's east buying chocolate at about 12.30pm. 

Her car was found at Wellington Point reserve the next day, and a body was found by a member of the public on Tuesday evening at Sovereign Waters foreshore in Birkdale - about three kilometres away.

A crime scene was declared and guarded by police overnight, but the woman is yet to be formally identified. 

Detectives have been liaising with Ms Hassan's family in relation to the find, a spokesperson for Queensland Police said in a statement.
