A farmer who attempted to take his own life due to drought pressures was saved when his daughter found the suicide note and raced to stop him.

Steve Germon, 47, who runs a dairy farm near Taree on the New South Wales Mid North Coast, was about to pull the trigger when his daughter Jessica, 17, found him.

Jessica may have saved her father's life but he is still struggling with the burden of a $74,000 grain debt and a broken marriage.

Mr Germon, who left a note on the porch before driving to a paddock to put down starving calves, said he would be dead if not for his daughter.

'Jessica read the note and literally came to save my life,' he told The Sunday Telegraph.

Since then his daughter has also helped to keep the farm afloat, waking before dawn to milk the cows.
