London’s high property prices can be very off-putting, prompting some people to make the decision to buy or rent a home a little further afield. Living outside of the English capital can be appealing for those looking for a different way of life to the hustle and bustle of the city too. With plenty of transport links into the hub of the UK, commuter towns can be a great option for those who want to live away from London, but still need to regularly travel into the city centre for work. But, which place is the best?
With 2019 well underway, TotallyMoney has unveiled its annual analysis of 116 commuter towns close to London.
In order to rank the areas, the team have taken a look at average house prices, the length of a train journey to London, the cost of getting there via a season ticket, and the town’s lifestyle rating - according to the Office for National Statistics.
And, when it comes to London’s best commuter towns, it seems that Cheshunt in the county of Hertfordshire is the champion this year.
Situated around 26 minutes away from the city centre, a season ticket here - which stands at £2,288 - is the fifth cheapest out of the lot.
