The petition, which has a deadline of May 6 2019, has already attracted an official Government response due to it receiving more than 10,000 signatures. The response, issued on November 27 2018, reads: “British citizenship can be removed if it does not render the individual stateless. Any risk posed by those who return from Syria will be managed and they may be investigated for criminal offences.”
But the official UK Government and Parliament appeal has apparently experienced a resurgence in activity since the contentious case of ISIS bride Shamima Begum came to light last week, with the online document appearing as “popular” on the Government website's homepage
Introducing the petition, its creator Stephen Kent writes: “By banning all returning ISIS members and by removing their citizenship and passports it would help keep the UK safe from terrorists and their actions.
“It would also save hundreds of thousands of pounds and time of the police and security services.
“It would also send a message to others that membership of terrorist organisation will not be tolerated.”
