An eBay user has managed to sell this £2 coin for £1,200.

The piece, which has been in circulation, is very rare.

One in around 700,000 coins - this is a genuinely rare coin.

So what is the piece and how can you spot it in your change?

Seller Coincrush managed to sell the piece for a whopping £1,200.

They said of the coin: “This is a 2£ Scottish flag commonwealth game coin which has been circulated.” (sic)

Coin collecting website Change Checker reports the coin as a mintage of 771,750.

The site gives the coin a ranking of 89, making it very scarce.

It was issued in 2002, and was part of a four coin collection of pound coins.

The four different designs each represent one of the countries of the Commonwealth. This coin represents Scotland and has the Scottish flag on it.

The coins is also known as the “2002 XVII Commonwealth Games £2”.

Royal Mint said of the coin: “From 25 July to 4 August 2002, the city of Manchester played host to the Commonwealth Games.

“In the biggest competition in the 72-year history of the Games, some of the world’s greatest athletes competed in fourteen individual sports and three team sports over ten days of sporting and cultural activity.

“To mark this celebration of sporting excellence, The Royal Mint issued a commemorative £2 coin. Matthew Bonaccorsi’s reverse design represents celebration, victory and sportsmanship.
