North-east Scotland will see the heaviest rain, but powerful showers could strike across the east of Britain all the way to Kent. However western parts of England and Wales will be much dryer with some sunshine. Rain should also be expected in eastern areas on Saturday, but should dissipate on Sunday.
Met office meteorologist Mark Wilson said: “We saw some really heavy thundery showers across parts of the UK on Thursday and it’s a similar picture on Friday.
“There will be some sunshine but that’s likely to spark off some further heavy showers across more eastern areas.”
Light rain should be expected across the north and east of Scotland and Northern Ireland first thing in the morning.
Much of Wales and southwest England will be cloudy but initially dry.
