MPs Stephen Hammond and Antoinette Sandbach were among MPs approached by the Tory’s 1922 Committee’s executive to appeal their expulsion from the party, according to the MailOnline. One Tory rebel was reportedly given a piece of paper explaining the procedure by the Vice Chair of the 1922 Committee, Cheryl Gillan.
The MP for Chesham and Amersham, Dame Cheryl, sent members of her local Conservative association a letter saying that she is “currently working on the appeal processes.”
The procedure remains relatively unknown but was first introduced in 2006 after former Tory MP Howard Flight was kicked out of the party.
The complex procedure involves MPs writing to the Chief Whip, Mark Spencer, asking for their expulsion to be reversed.
Ms Sandbach said: “I am reflecting on whether to appeal withdrawal of the whip and will make my decision over the weekend.
