Disabled John Godfrey, 71, is facing court action for the care given to Beryl Godfrey, who died in 2015. The original bill was for £53,480, but it has been accruing interest at a rate of £82 every week. Mr Godfrey, of Kinnesswood in Kinross-shire, said: "We fought our best for mum for many years and now me and my wife thought we would have some peace to look after each other with our disabilities.

"Then four years later, we get this letter from Perth and Kinross Council wanting £53,000 for my mum's end of life care - it scared the life out of us."
