ANNEKA RICE has spoken out about an “awkward” moment involving her three sons after it was announced she was joining the Strictly Come Dancing 2019 line-up. She will perform with Kevin Clifton for the first time tonight.

Anneka Rice has recalled signing up for Strictly Come Dancing 2019, after previously being likened to legendary former contestant Ann Widdecombe. The Welsh presenter “didn’t tell a soul” she had signed on the dotted line to do the BBC competition - not even her sons. However, the 60-year-old’s confirmation she was in the line-up reached them before she had time to spill the beans. Writing in her first Strictly column for this week’s Radio Times, she revealed how it all came about.

Anneka commented: “A few years ago my nephew said, ’You should do Strictly, Annie. You could be the Ann Widdecombe figure!’ The Strictly producers liked this.

“I’d be a human experiment. When the call came, I didn’t tell a soul. The idea was so ludicrous I couldn’t even say it aloud.”

But she even made the mistake of not informing her boys, the eldest two she shares with ex husband and theatre boss Nick Allott, who she split from in 1992.
