Dan Walker slams Sadiq Khan over Streatham attack ‘What are you doing?’ ...

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan joined Dan Walker live via video feed this morning on BBC Breakfast to discuss why the convicted terror offender had been allowed out on automatic release halfway through his sentence and had been allowed to carry out an attack. But Walker was forced to push the Mayor to find out what he was actually going to to keep the public safe.

Walker began: “Later today the Prime Minister will hold talks on “fundamental changes” as to how convicted terrorists are dealt with and I'm joined now by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

“We don't know yet exactly what those fundamental changes are but the government did announce measures after the attack at Fishmonger Hall, do you support those changes?”

Khan explained: “I do, but I’m honest I am angry about it because both these attacks, the one in November and the one yesterday were preventable and foreseeable.

“I’ve been concerned for some time and I’ve made my views clear as to changes in law by the government, which means judges don’t have the tools they used to have to keep people in prison longer who are still a danger to the public.”

Khan continued: “But we know that rather [than] people who are in prison and being reformed they are actually being radicalised further.

“And obviously the police and the authorities were concerned that this man was a danger, which is why you now know that he was under surveillance with an armed team.”

Walker chipped in: “He was under police surveillance as you mentioned and the police acted very quickly yesterday when this was taking place, but what more could have been done?”

Khan replied: “The police couldn't do much more the police were brilliant, the police can only stop in and arrest somebody if they have broken the law.
