Senior Spanish officials are pressuring the Rock to set up a border-style agreement to ensure the fluidity of movement on its border after Britain leaves the EU. The news will come as further evidence Spain is attempting to exploit Brexit to expand its influence over Gibraltar.
Mayors from neighbouring towns in Spain including Castellar, Los Barrios, San Roque, lgeciras, La Linea de la Concepcion, Los Barrios, Jimena and San Martin del Tesorillo met with Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya to discuss their demands.
They discussed Spain’s bid to make Gibraltar an “area of shared wealth”.
Jose Ignacio Landaluce, Mayor of Algeciras, said: “We would be disregarding our responsibilities if we didn’t use Brexit to solve our regional problems.

“We have to make sure that the Spanish who work in Gibraltar feel backed up by our politicians so they can keep their jobs,” according to Olive Press.
Spain has repeatedly attempted to take control over the southernmost tip of the Iberic peninsula despite ceding the territory to the UK over 300 years ago
The demand come after Gibraltar’s leader Fabian Picardo said the microstate was considering joining the EU’s open borders area after Brexit.
