Bay City Rollers star Ian Mitchell dies aged 62 as band left 'deeply saddened'

IAN MITCHELL - a former Bay City Rollers member - has died aged 62, his band mates confirmed today.

Bay City Rollers announced the news of Ian Mitchell’s death on their Facebook page today. They wrote: “We are deeply saddened by the news of Ian Mitchell's death. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Wendy, their family and friends.”

Ian's cause of death is yet to be confirmed. 

Stuart Wood, the band's former guitarist, paid tribute to the late star on the social networking site. 

He wrote: "Very sad, sad news about Ian Mitchell.

"We’d like to send our love and condolences to [his wife] Wendy and all Ian’s family and friends.”

“You are in our hearts.I have many fond memories of Ian not only in the BCR days but also when we played together in the 80’s with The Passengers.

"Great guys and great days! You will sorely be missed Ian.”

The singer joined the band aged 17 as Alan Longmuir’s replacement.

While a member of the Bay City Rollers, he recorded one album, Dedication, in 1976.
