Douglas Petersen (played by Tom Hollander) was on a desperate quest to save his marriage in the new four-part drama Us. The adaptation of David Nicholls began with Connie Peterson (Saskia Reeves) announcing to her husband she wanted to end their marriage when their son leaves for university. As the couple prepared to wave their son Albie (Tom Taylor) off to university, they set off on a trip around Europe.

BBC viewers discovered more about the couple’s relationship with a series of flashbacks to the strait-laced scientist falling in love with a frustrated artist.
Some viewers slammed the adaptation as one tweeted: “Half an hour into this and still waiting for something to happen. Meh. #Us.”
