#Us viewers divided over new BBC series: 'Waiting for something to happen'

Douglas Petersen (played by Tom Hollander) was on a desperate quest to save his marriage in the new four-part drama Us. The adaptation of David Nicholls began with Connie Peterson (Saskia Reeves) announcing to her husband she wanted to end their marriage when their son leaves for university. However, viewers were divided over the family’s doomed trip across Europe.

As the couple prepared to wave their son Albie (Tom Taylor) off to university, they set off on a trip around Europe. 

Douglas was reluctant to carry on with the holiday at first but soon changed his mind and hoped the trip would bring him closer to his family. 

BBC viewers discovered more about the couple’s relationship with a series of flashbacks to the strait-laced scientist falling in love with a frustrated artist. 

Some viewers slammed the adaptation as one tweeted: “Half an hour into this and still waiting for something to happen. Meh. #Us.”
