When will Happy Valley season 3 be released?

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Happy Valley creator Sally Wainwright said: "I'm writing Happy Valley three now, that is the next thing on the list.

"I've only just started, I'm getting all the research together but we have got some good storylines in mind."

She went on to say: "I'm not directing Gentleman Jack this time which I'm very sad about but I made that choice because I wanted to get on with Happy Valley three and I hope I will be directing that but we will see, it's just very time consuming.”

She added: "All the time I'm directing I'm not writing so it's a big decision."

As Wainwright is in the early stages of writing, season three is unlikely to be airing for some time.

The earliest season three is likely to air could be in 2021 but the BBC hasn’t confirmed anything yet.

COVID-19 filming restrictions could also impact on the speed of filming and production with the cast and crew adhering to social distancing and rigorous testing during the shoot

Season two of Happy Valley aired back in 2016 and proved just as captivating as the first outing.
