Venmo was down for users, leaving thousands unable to make digital transactions with the app.
DownDetector, a site that monitors online outages, showed issues started around 4pm ET, plaguing users in the US, the UK, Australia, and parts of Asia, Europe and South America.
Users reported problems with the app, payments and logging into accounts.
DownDetector's outage map showed Dallas and Chicago are taking the brunt, while other cities like San Francisco and Boston may be experiencing problems.
Approximately 41 percent of issue reports cited payments, 34 percent with the app and 24 percent funds transfer.
Venmo lets users send and receive money through its app, and it is considered one of the most popular of its kind.
The service has more than 91 million users, which is predicted to reach over 97 million by 2025 - and 100 million users the year following.
The typical Venmo user makes five transactions per month, with an average transaction amount of $65 to $75.
Users hit with the outage have flocked to Elon Musk's X to share their frustrations and see if others are experiencing problems.
Rick Matthews posted: 'Is @Venmo down? I've never had any issues transferring money out until today and now my app just hangs when I try to choose an account to transfer into. Folks on Reddit saying the same thing.'
Another user by the name of 'krill' also posted on X, tagging Venmo support.
'Hello Venmo, are you currently experiencing issues with your app? I’m trying to transfer funds to my card or bank and it does not give me the option to do either. Even though both are linked to my account. Pls advise ty,' he shared.
The Venmo Support page has not acknowledged the outage.
One X user claimed they called Venmo and the representative said the outage could last for a few hours.
