Terrifying footage shows the moment a passenger plane plunged into an out-of-control death spiral before crashing in Brazil reportedly killing everyone onboard.
Around 61 people were aboard the Voepass Linhas Aéreas flight when it plummeted on Friday, according to the airline.
The local firefighters corps confirmed that the plane crashed in the city of Vinhedo and told the New York Times there were no survivors.
Chilling footage shared by Brazil's TV GloboNews showed a plane spiraling out of the sky seconds before the crash.
Another angle shows the plane's sickening descent, before a huge plume of black smoke is seen rising from the ground.
'Voepass has activated all means to support those involved,' a statement from the airline said. 'There is still no confirmation of how the accident occurred or the current situation of the people on board.'
The plane was on its way from Cascavel to Guarulhos cruising at 17,000 feet when it began the sudden descent.
'I would like everyone to stand up so that we can observe a minute of silence because a plane has just crashed in the city of Vinhedo, in São Paulo, with 58 passengers and 4 crew members and it appears they all died,' Lula said in a statement on X.
Brazil’s Civil Defense says the plane struck several houses within the residential area, CNN Brasil reported.
Sao Paulo federal police told ABC that one resident was injured following the impact.
Hospitals in Vinhedo and Valinhos have been put on alert to receive any potential wounded.
Sao Paulo's Governor Tarcísio de Freitas is also returning from Vitória to manage the situation, according to officials.
'The Superintendence of Technical and Scientific Police (SPTC), the Civil and Military Police are mobilized to rescue the victims,' his agency said in a statement.
'Teams from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) and those responsible for collecting bodies were also sent to reinforce the work.'
Footage shared by Brazilian media showed a large area on fire and smoke coming out of an apparent plane fuselage.
According to the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), the plane was an ATR-72-500 turboprop with 68 seats.
It is manufactured by French company ATR, one of the largest aviation manufacturers in the world.
It can fly a maximum altitude of 10,000 feet with a maximum speed of 316.9mph.
The aircraft was PS-VPB, a 14-year-old ATR72-500, according to FlightRadar24.
Data from the flight tracker shows the plane lost 13,000 feet in elevation in under two minutes during the final moments of its ill-fated trip.
GPS signal cut out just before 1.30pm local time, according to the radar.
'ATR has been informed that an accident occurred in Vinhedo, Brazil involving an ATR 72-500,' a spokesman for ATR said.
'Our first thoughts are with all the individuals affected by this event. The ATR specialists are fully engaged to support both the investigation and the customer.'
Anac confirmed it is now probing the cause of the disaster.
