On song: The 'Taylor Swift effect' is expected to have boosted growth

Britain's economy is set for a Taylor Swift boost after fans splashed out on train tickets, restaurants and hotels, according to City analysts.

Official figures are this week expected to show an uptick in growth – and the Love Story singer could have played a part.

Economists said GDP data for June, to be published on Thursday, could show the impact of 'Swifties' flocking to London, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Cardiff to see their idol perform her Eras tour.

The 'Taylor Swift effect' and busy pubs during the Euros is expected to have boosted growth in the key services sector, they said.

Analysts at Investec forecast that GDP rose 0.7 per cent in the second quarter, and that monthly growth was 0.2 per cent in June.

Swift will perform five more dates at London's Wembley Stadium from this week.
