With just weeks to go until Election Day and the race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris narrowing dramatically, one of the most famous Democrats remains on the sidelines.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama has not been seen anywhere near Harris or her campaign since she made an appearance at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago nearly two months ago.
Back then, the vice president saw a gush of support after President Joe Biden canceled his reelection bid and Harris was riding high on positive polling.
But now as Harris is dipping in national surveys, Michelle Obama is nowhere to be found.
And sources are indicating its because Obama is afraid for her security following the multiple assassination attempts on Trump, NBC News reported this week.
'After the two assassination attempts against former President Trump, the staffs of all the former presidents and first ladies recognized the new reality and so does the Secret Service,' a source familiar with the situation told the outlet.
They said the attempts were 'a wake-up call to everyone' and has made individuals in those circles, like Obama, aware 'of the new reality.'
Sources revealed that Obama 'will have made her voice heard' by the time Election Day rolls around, indicating that she might soon hit the trail for Harris.
Barack's wife was at the time Biden dropped out thought to be the most appealing candidate among all Democrats to lead the party forward.
A Reuters/Ipsos survey from July 2 found that Michelle Obama was the only hypothetical candidate that could beat Trump.
The respondents gave her glowing reviews, giving her 50 percent of their support while the ex-president only garnered 39 percent.
Obama's massive popularity may be a necessary buoy for Harris to grab onto should she continue to take on water and sink further in the polls.
But the ex-first lady has instead been focusing on getting Americans registered to vote.
Her organization, When We All Vote, has been hosting events to try and boost voter registration ahead of the November 5 contest.
The group has held events in Florida, Georgia and Arizona recently and has many more events planned.
Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, meanwhile, have been hitting the campaign trail for Harris.
