Donald Trump trolled Joe Biden and Kamala Harris by riding a MAGA garbage truck to his rally in Wisconsin on Wednesday night in response to Biden's comments that upended the presidential race with a week to go.
The former president rolled up to reporters on the tarmac in Green Bay, leaning out the window to take questions before his event in the battleground which is one of the seven states that will decide the election.
Trump and Harris are locked in a statistical tie in Wisconsin, and nationwide they are separated by by razor-thin margins as one of the closet campaigns in history draws to a close.
'How do you like my garbage truck? This truck is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden,' he told the waiting media while wearing an orange workman's vest.
'For Joe Biden to make that statement — it's really a disgrace,' he added before speaking to supporters while Harris addressed her own fans in a different part of the state.
Trump was referring to the comments made by 81-year-old Biden that referred to his supporters as 'garbage.'
'The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,' Biden was initially quoted as saying.
The White House later clarified his words with an apostrophe in the transcript, and claimed the president was only talking about comedian Tony Hinchcliffe calling Puerto Rico a 'floating island of garbage.'
Kamala Harris tried Wednesday to distance herself from her chief's remarks.
The side of the truck was emblazoned with a Trump sign and had an American flag on the window.
As the 78-year-old GOP nominee leaned out the side, wearing an orange reflective vest, he took questions from the press.
One asked if he owes Puerto Rico an apology over comedian Tony Hinchcliffe calling it a 'floating island of garbage' during his Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday.
'I love Puerto Rico. And Puerto Rico loves me. I don't know anything about a comedian', Trump said.
'Nobody has done more for Puerto Rico than me. Nobody gets along better with Puerto Rico. They love me and I love them.'
The Republican nominee was in Wisconsin for a rally with NFL legend Brett Favre.
The retired Green Bay Packer quarterback told the crowd: 'Just like the Packers organization, Donald Trump and his organization is a winner and the United States of America won with his leadership
'I can assure you we're not garbage. How dare you say that. Looking out I see police officers, teachers, nurses, grandparents, students. I see everyday Americans that make this country great.'
Trump then took the rally stage still wearing the orange vest as the crowd roared.
'I have to begin by saying, 250 million Americans are not garbage,' he opened by saying.
'Kamala and Joe call all of us garbage. I call you the heart and soul of America. You built our country,' Trump said to massive applause.
He recounted the offer he got to drive the garbage truck just minutes before landing in Wisconsin.
'Sir would you like to drive a garbage truck?' one of his staffers petitioned.
He said he thought it sounded 'kind of cool' and was up for it before he was told, 'Sir we have a vest.'
Then came the next challenge: Climbing the dauntingly high steps up into the garbage truck.
'How the hell do you get into the truck,' Trump joked, noting how 'it was way up high.'
He admitted thinking, 'If I don't get up there this is going to be very embarrassing.'
The former president revealed that with all the cameras rolling he really 'had the adrenaline going.'
But after the event he panicked: 'Where is my jacket?'
His concerns were quickly alleviated, he said.
'It actually makes you look thinner,' Trump said while smiling, mentioning that he appreciated the flattery.
'They got me and I said now I want to wear it on stage,' he told the cracking up crowd.
'I may never wear a blue jacket again,' he continued on, stoking the crowd's laughs.
Meanwhile, Harris' speeches in three swing states on Wednesday were derailed by hecklers in the critical final stretch of the campaign with the polls on a knife edge.
The vice president was in the middle of her remarks in the battlegrounds of North Carolina and Pennsylvania when the demonstrators started screaming and shouting at her.
Harris slapped down the interruptions both times by invoking Trump ad claiming he considers his critics the 'enemy.'
Her third rally of the long day also was interrupted.
Protesters have popped up frequently at Harris' rallies and most have targeted the Biden administration's involvement in the war in Gaza.
Despite the interruptions, Harris tried to move on so she could get to the crux of her speech.
'I will listen to experts,' she said to a member of the audience shouting during a Get Out the Vote rally in Raleigh, North Carolina.
'I will listen to those impacted by the decisions I make. And to people who disagree with me,' she added.
'See, this is the thing. Because you know, we’re actually fighting for a democracy,' she said calmly. 'And unlike Donald Trump, I don’t believe people who disagree with me are the enemy. He wants to put them in jail; I’ll give them a seat at the table.'
The crowd shouted 'Kamala' in unison to drown out the heckler before he was escorted out by security.
Then in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a protester waving a Palestinian flag blew a whistle.
'We are six days away from an election and ours is about a fight for democracy and your right to be heard, that is what is on the line in this election,' she said.
'Look, everybody has a right to be heard but right now, I am speaking.'
Her supporters booed as Harris dismissed the disruptors.
'At this particular moment, it should be emphasized that, unlike Donald Trump, I don’t believe people who disagree with me are the enemy from within,' she said.
'He wants to put them in jail. I’ll give them a seat at the table.'
At her third event of the day before a packed arena in Madison, the vice president was interrupted once again including by a group that unfurled a banner before being removed.
'We all want the war in Gaza to end and the hostages out,' she responded.
'Everyone has the right to be heard, but right now I am speaking.'
While the day was hampered by interruptions at all three Get Out the Vote rallies across three states, it did not dampen the celebratory mood of the vice president's supporters as the campaign season heads into the final sprint.
All three events were packed venues filled with crowds of voters who waved signs, danced and turned out in their best Harris-Walz gear.
Harris wrapped up a whirlwind day with a star-studded rally in Madison where for the third time that day she asked battleground state residents for their votes.
‘We have six days left in one of the most consequential elections of our lifetime,’ Harris said after taking the stage before a thunderous crowd.
At all three events, the Democratic presidential nominee expressed confidence in Democrats' chances in the election despite razor-thin polling.
‘Make no mistake, we will win,’ Harris said.
Her final rally took place at the Alliant Energy Center under a red banner that read ‘Badgers for Harris-Walz.’
Before the vice president spoke, there were performances by Remi Wolf, Gracie Abrams, Aaron Dessner and Matt Berninger of The National and the band Mumford & Sons, who all urged people to get out and vote.
Madison is home to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where more than 50,000 students go to school.
Young voters are a key part of Democrats coalition in the state and received multiple shoutouts throughout the night from performers as well as Democratic officials.
In an unusual move for Democrats, the entire arena was a sea of red for the occasion including a massive red ‘Freedom’ sign and red ‘vote’ besides the ‘Badgers for Harris-Walz’ sign as red and white are the university’s colors.
And Biden, whose 'garbage' gaffe dominated headlines Wednesday, seemingly showered the Dems with more embarrassing moments when he bizarrely bit three babies as he greeted the children of staff to his final Halloween party at the White House.
Biden - infamous for his playful interaction with children at public events - also feigned fright at the creepy costumes of his young visitors alongside his wife Jill who was dressed in a full-body panda suit.
The 81-year-old president was pictured biting the leg of a baby dressed as a turkey, chomping the toe of a child in an ice cream cone costume and nibbling at a third baby wearing a blue dress.
The toothy display received a divided response on social media where some pointed to the grandfather of seven’s lighthearted nature while others found the interactions too close for comfort.
The theme of the event was 'Hallo-read' in a nod to the first lady's 40 years of teaching. Jill Biden handed out copies of the kids' book '10 Spooky Pumpkins' while the president handed out candy with the White House seal and his signature.
In addition to the local students and military-connected children who got their treats from the first couple, several administration staff brought their kids to have one last fright fest at the White House.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken brought his kids for the fun. OMB director Sholanda Young, who got a big hug from the president, brought her daughter.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre brought her daughter too.
The president also took time to nuzzle the baby of his aide Ashley Williams. The baby was being held by his long time staffer and current deputy chief of staff Annie Tomasini.
The president happily chatted with the kids as he handed out the sweet treats, sometimes taking so long a line of kids piled up waiting for him.
The Halloween event wasn't the first time Biden raised eyebrows while being playful with children at a holiday event.
On Thanksgiving of last year, Biden approached a child, named Catherine, and said her ears were 'really cool' at the meet at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia.
'What a beautiful name,' Biden said. 'That's my mommy's name. How old are you? 17?' he joked. 'Six!' the youngster replied shyly.
During a 2023 photo op in Finland, Biden pretended to gobble up and sniff a little girl during a bizarre exchange.
At the time, Biden was in Helsinki following the NATO summit in Lithuania, where he was also slammed for making a creepy comment to a female Finnish reporter.
During an address on Memorial Day 2021, Biden was slammed for 'creepy' remarks he made about a young girl during a speech at a Virginia military base.
The commander in chief went off-script to point out the 'elementary school- aged' girl: 'I love those barrettes in your hair, man.'
He continued: 'I tell you what, look at her, she looks like she's 19 years old, sitting there like a little lady with her legs crossed.'
During a 2020 event in Florida, Biden told a group of underage female dancers: 'I'm coming back and I want to see these beautiful young ladies, I want to see them dancing when they are four years older too!'
In 2019, he told a 10-year-old girl: 'I'll bet you're as bright as you are good-looking.'
During Wednesday event, the first lady at one point took off her panda head, but kept passing out books as the line of costumed children continued. She had joined the National Zoo earlier this year in announcing that a pair of pandas were coming.
The first couple spent about an hour outside handing out treats to ghosts, goblins, a bus (the president tossed a couple of boxes of candy inside), a unicorn, a cheerleader, the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, and a variety of animals.
Games were set up on the South Lawn and various government agencies had booths to pass out sweet treats.
The Beast was parked at the bottom of the driveway for photo-ops.
Darth Vader and two Storm Troops - sans weapons - were available for selfies as were Disney's Lilo and Stitch.
The South Lawn was filled with bunches of pumpkins, corn, hay bales and other fall-themed decorations.
The staircases leading to the South Portico were also decorated with various pumpkins and mums, along with two large jack-o-lanterns and a trellis made of books.
