An iconic Cape Cod mansion adjacent to the famed Kennedy compound has hit the white-hot housing market for a whopping $20 million.
The almost 5,000 square-foot Hyannis Port, Massachusetts mansion has been a poignant backdrop for its highly recognizable neighbors as it borders the storied Kennedy family compound.
Equipped with a breathtaking water view, the sprawling eight-bedroom and eight-bathroom estate overlooks the six-acre Kennedy property where John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis once played football and sailed on the Nantucket Sound.
The Kennedys are famously known for their high-profile, glamour during the golden age of American politics as the politically-focused family has long been prominent in American politics, public service, entertainment and business.
'There’s no way not to feel the history and legacy when you’re on this property,' Brian Dougherty, partner and CEO of Corcoran Property Advisors and co-lister of the storied home told The Boston Globe.
The luxury estate hit the market earlier this month at $19,800,000, with hopes to attract more potential buyers.
With amenities like a custom-designed swimming pool, a private beach and a prodigious lawn - said to have a capacity of 700 people - the property is quite the catch for one lucky buyer.
Shielded by finely manicured tall hedges and a gated driveway the home's only view outside of the opulent oasis is from another astonishing appeal of the home, a widow’s walk roof deck.
First purchased in 1999 for just $6 million, the then-owners poured $5 million in additional funds into the seaside estate adding oversized glass windows to maximize views of the Hyannis Harbor and Nantucket Sound.
'All 26 rooms have oceanfront views,' Dougherty said.
The luxurious property went live on the market the day before Ethel Kennedy - one of the last living links to the Camelot era of the Kennedy family dynasty - passed away.
Ethel, Robert F. Kennedy's widow, resided in the family's home until her unfortunate death.
The estate sits just yards away from the 155 Irving Avenue US National Landmark that is the Kennedy compound.
In 2012, the compound's Big House, was donated to the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate.
John F. Kennedy purchased one of the famed compound's many properties in 1965 with intention to expand the existing family estate. The 155 Irving Avenue property later became known as the 'President’s House,' and the 'Summer White House' during his presidency.
