Ruben Amorim will face twice the number of away fans as usual in his first home match as manager of Manchester United.

The Portuguese makes his Old Trafford bow when his side takes on Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night.

And, thanks to a huge interest in Norway – and subsequent security concerns – the visitors have been given 6,000 tickets for the fixture, around double the amount typically given to opponents.

There have been issues at previous clashes with away fans infiltrating home sections of the stadium for European clashes, not least when around 2,000 Galatasaray fans managed to obtain tickets in United areas for their Champions League match next year.

When tickets for this match went on sale two months ago, Bodo’s initial allocation of 3,800 sold out in 15 minutes, with 12,000 in the queue. 

Talks were held with United who then decided to considerably expand the away section. 

At the time, Erik ten Hag was still United’s manager and it was not known that this would be Amorim’s first match in Manchester.

The fixture is of huge importance to the visitors, whose own stadium holds little over 8,000. 

United have a vast following in Norway, and many Norwegians who have season tickets at Old Trafford are expected to bring friends.

Amorim’s arrival appears to have gone down well with United supporters, although tickets for the fixture remain available online.
