Aussie cricket fans inside the MCG issued a brutal sledge to Indian cricket great Virat Kohli during the final day of the Boxing Day Test, but Indian fans hit back with a chant of their own.
Australia went on to secure a famous victory on the final day of the fourth Test, with Pat Cummins' side wrestling the match away from India to win by 184 runs.
Having pressed ahead to a 340-run lead, there was some concern that India could come out to bat on the final day and wrestle the match away from the hosts.
But in what was a thrilling day of cricket, Australia it took Australia 92 overs to secure the fourth Test.
Player of the match, Cummins and Scott Boland both took three wickets each, while Travis Head, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon all impressed with the ball in hand.
It wasn't all plain sailing for Australia, though, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant forming a solid partnership, with the former amassing a tally of 84 runs.
There was some controversy on the field too, with Jaiswal being caught behind Alex Carey after he appeared to edge the ball behind.
Despite that, third umpire Joel Wilson did not raise his finger, with Australia opting to review the decision. While there was a clear deflection, snicko did not spike. Despite that, television umpires decided that the deflection was clear enough to overturn the original decision and Jaiswal was sent walking.
There was some controversy in the crowd too, with some fans in the MCG, including those in the infamous Bay 13, were overheard chanting 'Kohli is a w*****'.
It comes after the former India captain has endured a difficult week in Melbourne, initially clashing with reporters outside an airport.
Kohli had claimed that the reporters had filmed his family upon his arrival in Victoria.
'With my kids, I need some privacy, you can’t film without asking me,' the former India captain was overheard saying.
Kohli was then sanctioned by the ICC after he had appeared to 'shoulder bump' Aussie debutant Sam Konstas as he walked between overs.
The 36-year-old was handed one demerit point and fined 20 per cent of his match fee for the incident, which is understood to have breached the ICC's Code of Conduct relating to 'inappropriate physical contact with a player'.
But while Aussie fans berated the Indian superstar, some Indian fans inside the MCG hit back with their own chant.
According to cricket analyst Kartik Kannan, Indian fans had sung back the phrase 'Ganpati Bappa Morya' to the Australian supporters.
The phrase is understood to translate into praise for the deity Ganesha.
'Bay 13 goes 'Kohli is a w*****'. Bay 14 goes 'Ganpati Bappa Morya' This is the weirdest comeback I have heard. F*** my life!'
On Monday, Kohli again struggled with the bat in hand, being dismissed by Mitchell Starc for just five runs. It came after the Indian great had been dismissed for 36 runs in the previous innings.
Despite scoring a century in the first Test, Kohli has underwhelmed, by his standards, since, hitting 65 runs in the last three Tests.
With Australia now 2-1 up in the Border-Gavaskar Series, India will have to seal victory in Sydney next week if they hope to stop the hosts from clinching victory.
