Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas' terrifying six-year stalker ordeal has been revealed after a man was charged last week.

The Sun reports that Kyle Shaw, 37, appeared at South Sefton Magistrates' Court accused of sending messages to the dance pro, 64, between 2017 and 2023.

His conduct was said to have left Shirley 'seriously alarmed and distressed' and unable to continue her usual day-to-day activities.

According to the publication the accused bailed to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on January 31 and Judge Wendy Lloyd placed conditions stating that he 'not to contact or approach Shirley Ballas or by any means including social media'.

This comes just months after Shirley was forced to phone the police when an alleged stalker 'lunged at her and took photos of her house and car'. It is unknown wether that incident is linked to Shaw.

MailOnline have contacted Shirley's reps for comment.

Following the terrifying ordeal in July Shirley claimed that the man's phone and computer have now been confiscated by police as they investigate the claims.

Speaking on Mirror's Invite Only podcast, she said: 'There was one particular person who was kind of stalking me. That is under investigation at the moment, as we speak.

'I know his computer and phone, everything has been confiscated. He was taking pictures of my house, he had my house, he had my car. So, yes, there have been times when I have been fearful.

I meet people and they really, the majority of people are fantastic, but then once or twice you'll, they lunge.... this one particular person will lunge at me, and he really feels he knows me. He feels he knows me. But he only knows me from the TV. Or from following me on social media. And that's quite alarming.

'So, you know, I always have George, the guy who's driven me for the last five years, get out of the car first, always scanning.

'I wouldn't say it's the healthiest thing. You know, I like to be kind of like a free bird, but we're coming into times now where you have to be more vigilant of yourself.'

Shirley's scary ordeal comes just as Gavin Plumb was convicted over his attempts to kidnap former This Morning host, Holly Willoughby.

Shirley told how she has changed how she is much more aware of her safety ever since Holly's ordeal was made public.

She said: 'I am a very vigilant person. When I go out, I'm careful not to go alone. If it's at night, I'm always a little bit nervous.

'There's what you read on social media, (and then) particularly with Holly - her experiences. So, yeah, I don't take anything lightly. There are many amazing people, but there are a few strange people out there. It's quite hard, and makes you always a little bit more precautious.

'You're upping your level of alarms. And (now) I always tell my mum: 'I'm here, I've arrived'. I wouldn't bother normally but it's become a thing that we do. I always like to say: 'I'm safe, I'm in the right place, I'm where I should be.' Thankfully the BBC's duty of care towards me has been one thousand percent, they have been fantastic.

'So, in some of these instances, when it was difficult - this stalker came from the north of England - I had somebody that was walking me from the hotel to here, they checked in on me to make sure that I was ok. I just felt very well protected.'

Meanwhile Shilrey revealed the decision that 'changed her life forever' as she opened up on putting her personal life on hold for her career during a new interview.

The dancer had a successful Latin dance career before joining the Strictly Come Dancing panel in 2017 as she replaced head judge Len Goodman.

Away from the ballroom and Latin dance floor, the mother of one has also had a busy romantic life with two ex-husbands and a former fiancé.

During an appearance on Jennie Becker's Sliding Doors podcast, Shirley revealed the moment her career took off, but explained she had to put marriage and kids on hold.

She explained: 'I was engaged to a man called Nigel Tiffany and we had recently moved to Croydon. I was a secretary, highly underqualified but managed to talk my way into the job.

'Everything was going fine, we were very very happy and then I was at work one day when my teacher Nina called me and she said, "do you really want to get married and have a family or do you want a real chance at stardom?"

'Now Nigel was a ballroom dancer and he was doing very well in that, but my heart was always with the Latin and she wanted me to try with a man called Sammy Stopford.

'I was miles away from where he was, but she said I have ten minutes to think about it and then try out would be at the studio tomorrow. Don't tell Nigel when you go home and we'll go from there.'

Shirley went against what her dance teacher had asked, adding: 'I went home and I told him and he got most upset. I ended up leaving with my clothes in plastic bags and ended up meeting my long-term girlfriend Denise because I stayed with her grandmother.

'I then moved to Manchester with Sammy and we got married maybe 18 months later. We had the most amazing career in a short space of time so had I not made that decision, I'm sure I would be very happy with Nigel and had a lovely life, but I never would have fulfilled the dreams in Latin.

'It changed my life forever, put me on a track to really having an opportunity in the world of Latin dancing.'
