Borussia Dortmund are looking unlikely to offer an escape route to out-of-favour Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
The England star’s agents have held talks with several clubs since he was dropped by Ruben Amorim and the German side were among them, as reported by Mail Sport.
But Rashford’s £350,000-a-week wages are thought to have ruled them out, even for a short-term deal.
The move could be revisited if costs fall.
Dortmund are also interested in Brentford’s Kevin Schade, but he would cost £45million.
And with AC Milan completing a loan for Manchester City’s Kyle Walker, Rashford - who was not in the squad last night and watched from the stands - has been left with only one realistic landing spot this month.
The situation is complicated by Dortmund’s sacking of manager Nuri Sahin this week.
Meanwhile, United have fuelled fears over ticket-price rises by saying they must make ‘difficult choices’ to become profitable.
Protest group The 1958 and fan coalition FC58 wrote to the club urging them to not only freeze season-ticket prices, but consider reducing them.
But in a reply, United wrote: ‘We are making a significant loss each year. This is not sustainable and if we do not act we are in danger of failing to comply with PSR/FFP (financial rules), significantly impacting our ability to compete.
‘We will get back to a cash positive position as soon as possible and will have to make difficult choices. We do not expect fans to make up all the shortfall, but we do need to look at our ticketing strategy.’
