Bayer Leverkusen wing back Jeremie Frimpong has become the European face of New Balance in one of the biggest boot deals in football – ahead of a potential move this summer.
Mail Sport can reveal the Dutch international, 24, has penned a contract worth around £20million — which puts him in the same bracket as Erling Haaland and Lionel Messi’s deals with Nike and adidas respectively.
Frimpong is appreciated by many clubs around Europe and New Balance see him as the most exciting right back on the continent — with a move to England or a top European club potentially on the cards this summer.
The contract was structured by his brother and team — and the brand deal focuses around his commitment to community and family with Frimpong’s charity, Pathways, which supports footballers who do not ‘make it’ at the top level.
Frimpong is a summer target for a multitude of sides. Liverpool have been mooted as a potential destination though sources close to the English leaders have played this down, while others such as Manchester United would be keen alongside top European clubs.
The Amsterdam-born star started his career at Manchester City’s academy before moving to Celtic. He signed for Leverkusen in 2021 and excelled under Xabi Alonso as they won the Bundesliga against the odds last season.
