She triumphantly returned to the catwalk for the first time in almost 14 years at PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival's opening show on Monday.

And Elle MacPherson has now revealed why she decided to make her runway comeback just weeks before celebrating her 60th birthday.

Speaking to Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo on Tuesday's Today show, the Australian supermodel, 59, said she's feeling 'better now than ever' and wanted to use her fame to support local designers.

'[Walking at PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival]  was a celebration. It was wonderful to be wearing all those young Australian designers... and supporting these Australian designers that have been breaking ground overseas. I had a great time,' gushed the mother-of-two.

Elle said she was particularly excited about supporting the event's sponsor PayPal, which she said has 'really helped' her own supplement brand WelleCo, as well as PayPal's partner charity UNICEF.
