Orlando City winger Nani was reduced to tears after being given an early bath against Columbus Crew following a late challenge from the former Manchester United man.
The Portuguese star, now 33, was in disbelief after his yellow card for a tackle on Columbus midfielder Artur was upgraded to red by VAR, with the referee going to the pitchside monitor for a second look.
His Orlando City team-mates were left seething at the decision, which appeared harsh as Nani looked to get contact on the ball and did not catch his opponent cleanly as he followed through.

The player was sent tumbling to the ground with the referee initially giving him a yellow card
But after checking the pitchside monitor he decided to upgrade the yellow card to red
A clip from early in the second half shows Nani trying to hold off two Columbus players outside his own box, before he turns and attempts to make a clearance before colliding with Artur, who was sent tumbling and slumped to the turf.
