A man was lucky to survive a 10-metre fall after plunging into a construction site pit in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Emergency Services were called to Victoria Street in Darlinghurst, Sydney, just after 1am after reports that a man in his 30s had fallen 10metres into a construction pit next to St Johns Church. 

He had landed on a pile of rocks and dirt instead of a heavy vehicle which was just metres away.

The man sustained serious injuries to his lower legs as well as a number of cuts in the fall, The Daily Telegraph reported.
