Dashcam footage has revealed the moment that a driver accidentally hit a police officer and sent him flying as he chased a shoplifting suspect on foot.
Officer Greg Wertman, 35, remains hospitalized in serious condition after being struck by a civilian vehicle as he pursued the suspect in Boynton Beach, Florida on Wednesday.
Suspect Ryan Lamar Moody, 24, was apprehended a short time later by other officers.
'This incident is another example of how dangerous the policing profession is,' Boynton Beach Police Chief Michael Gregoy said on Monday, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
