A shocking photo of a native Australian bird with a takeaway drink lid stuck around its neck has been posted online - sparking a campaign to ban the plastic items. 

The photo of the Corella was posted on a change.org petition calling for the immediate ban of plastic dome lids and flat lids on takeaway drinks.  

'The distressing photo attached was captured in a friend's garden. This picture speaks volumes,' the petition begins. 

'I wonder how many other birds, reptiles, marine life and small creatures are suffering the same cruel fate in silence and fear that we don't see.'
