The most gut-wrenching images from Australia's horror bushfire crisis

These are the devastating photographs that have broken hearts across the world, inspiring millions of donations for Australia's bushfire crisis.

Gut-wrenching pictures show the scale of devastation to both thousands of family homes and the stunning wildlife which surrounded them, all defenceless in the path of raging bushfires.

But others show glimmers of hope, as brave firefighters band together to protect communities and small acts of kindness inspire people around the world. 

So far this bushfire season, 25 people have died with more still missing. 

Around 500 million animals have perished, along with six million hectares of land across the country.

Hundreds of families have been evacuated across NSW and Victoria, not knowing if they will ever return to their homes.
