Shooting leaves one dead inside south Charlotte restaurant late Wednesday

A male was shot and killed in a Mexican food restaurant late Wednesday in southwest Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

It happened about 9 p.m. at the La Poblanita Bar and Grill at 1925 Westinghouse Boulevard, just east of South Tryon Street in the the Steele Creek area, police said.

Someone called 911 at 9:10 p.m. to report an assault with a deadly weapon, a release said.

“Upon arrival, officers located a male inside the restaurant who had been shot. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the release said.

“Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident and are working to determine how many suspects were involved,” police said.

The name of the victim was not released early Thursday.

Police are asking anyone with tips on the shooting to call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
