Emily Maitlis, 50, has taken to Twitter to respond to one of her BBC colleagues, who has announced they will be leaving "to forge a new future". The journalist admitted she is "gutted" and declared: "How could you?"
How could you!
It came after BBC Radio 4 presenter and World at One's Mark Mardell, 63, confirmed his last day at the broadcaster in view of his 38,000 Twitter followers.
"My last #wato tomorrow & #TW2 on Sunday – I’m leaving the BBC after more than 30 years," he wrote.
"V sad to leave hugely talented and lovely team.
"Excited to forge a new future."(sic)

Amongst the many comments he received following his career update, New York journalist Nick Byrant decided to express his thoughts and send on his best wishes.
Sharing Mark's post onto his 38,000 followers, he added: "One of our great writers and big thinkers. Sorry to see you go Mark," which resulted in Emily wading in on the conversation.
"This x 100. Gutted," she told her 406,000 followers.
The BBC host then asked her colleague, seemingly light-heartedly: "How could you?"
