Real Madrid reportedly want to pinch Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea - by offering an out-of-sorts star in exchange.
Carlo Ancelotti has come under pressure for an underwhelming Champions League campaign and a 5-2 thrashing by Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup earlier this month.
Spanish outlet Relevo claimed Ancelotti risks the sack, that some team leaders were frustrated at his decisions, and that the dressing room has beccome splintered.
Ancelotti hopes that signing the Fernandez, who is a regular started under Enzo Maresca, can revive their ailing European hopes and put the LaLiga title beyond doubt.
Madrid are willing to offer midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni in exchange for the Argentinian star, as per DIRECTV Sports.
The deal would not include any cash as the plan currently stands.
Tchouameni, 24, has come under fire for his performances this season.
As his name was read out in the starting line-up for a match against Celta Vigo earlier this month, fans at the Santiago Bernabeu jeered and whistled.
He had also been booed when he came out to warm up, though less fans were there to make a commotion at that time.
The Frenchman has been forced to play out of position this season due to Real Madrid's defensive injury crisis.
He has sometimes been forced to drop into centre-back rather than midfield because Eder Militao is out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.
There is no doubt, though, that a manager who can get a tune out of Tchouameni could have one of Europe's best midfielders on their hands.
After the 2020-21 season he was named as Ligue 1's young player of the year thanks to his stunning form at Monaco.
The following summer, he signed with Madrid in an £85million deal after snubbing interest from Liverpool and PSG.
He has since gone on to make 113 appearances for Los Blancos, winning eight trophies.
