Traitors star Charlotte Berman has broken her silence after viewers said she was 'robbed' when producers introduced an explosive last-minute twist.

At the beginning of the final episode, Frankie discovered Charlotte was a Traitor after she used her powers as the Seer to unveil her identity.

What then ensued was an awkward battle of wills as Frankie and Charlotte went head-to-head to convince the others of their innocence, with Charlotte turning the tables on her pal and accused her of being a traitor.

And while it made for dramatic television, viewers at home were not impressed with the change, remarking that the rule has 'ruined' the show, with the twist being a 'massive mistake'.

Charlotte told MailOnline that she didn't enjoy watching it back, describing it as a 'tough watch' because it was a 'tough last day'.

The 33-year-old said: 'The tears and the emotion was so real. I felt like I was in the stickiest spot imaginable, but I owed it to the Traitors and I owed it to the game to keep going.

'So I was despairing and crying a lot, but I really tried to keep playing. It was really, really tough, really, really tough.

'That's why I find it really hard to watch because it actually brings back how tough it was to do as well.'

Charlotte failed to dupe the Faithfuls who voted to banish the Traitor, who up until the Seer twist had been favorite to scoop the £94,500 prize pot.

She added: 'I feel proud that the last Round Table just before going in, I'd had a bit of a weep in the sort of diary room area and I got it out of my system, so I could hold it together for the last round table and I felt really proud of myself to give it one last shot.'

Despite the intensity of the final roundtable and the unpopular twist, Charlotte, who pretended to be Welsh to appear more trustworthy, enjoyed the game.

'When I was first recruited, it was really fun and I think you could probably all see, I was having a really fun time.'

'But getting caught by the Seer is like when you're a kid and you get caught. When Frankie found out I was a traitor, I was like, 'oh no.'

Asked whether she thought the Seer twist had stopped her winning, she replied: 'I think the fact that Freddie had obviously voted for me at the banishment before he went, I think it would have been very hard for me to win from that.'

'I think especially given the way that the game was played this year with the lack of revealing towards the end of who we were. I think if there's one sprig of doubt you're out, 'oh Freddie, voted for you, you're out.'

'So I think the seer thing obviously was the nail in the coffin, of course, but I think you can unpick it in so many ways.'

Despite a growing legion of fans and becoming a television favourite, Charlotte confirmed she is returning the office on Wednesday to resume her job as a business director.

Viewers were touched by one scene in the final episode where Alexander, Jake and Leanne go off to deliberate, leaving Frankie and Charlotte alone.

She revealed that the touching moment was so moving that Claudia Winkleman cried watching it.

Charlotte said: 'We removed ourselves and had this really, really lovely moment in the kitchen where the barriers could go down.

'I didn't have to pretend because she knew. We could just chat and acknowledge that this isn't personal and it's just a game and it's really hard because I've got to play this role and she's got to play that role.

'It was really lovely. I mean, I probably shouldn't say it, but we had a lovely hug and it was just really, really special. I think Claudia referred to having watched it in the gallery and said it made her a bit weepy and it was wonderful.

'Then we went straight into the round table and of course, I had to go straight into game mode and go on the attack.'

Despite being such a prominent figure in the final episode, Charlotte only discovered the outcome of the game last night with the rest of the country as she had already been banished leaving Alexander, Frankie, Leanne and Jake to fight it out.

Eventually 7.4 million tuned in to see Leanne and Jake turn on their fellow faithfuls, Alexander and Frankie, and split the prize pot between them.

Charlotte said it was the outcome she predicted but it wasn't an easy watch.

She said: 'I think it was really hard. I obviously knew they were faithful, so it's brutal watching them forced out, knowing they're all innocent, they could have split it four ways. But I also did have a really strong feeling that this would be the exact outcome.'

'There was so much uncertainty around Alexander. It was just a shame. It was just the way he came in late. It was like, 'oh, is it Alexander or is it Fozia? Well it's not Fozia because she's been murdered.' Unfortunately, I just don't think he could have ever overcome that. He wanted to prove he was a faithful, but he didn't get that chance.'

'With Frankie, I think unfortunately I had put enough doubt in people's minds and that was really hard because I didn't want to take that win away from her, but I had to play my game. So I wasn't super surprised at the outcome.'

'It's hard but we all had such a great time and it sounds really corny but genuinely playing the game is a win, and just getting the opportunity is so surreal, so this is winning.'
