The 64th edition of the Ballon d'Or gets underway today as footballing elites assemble in Paris to find out winner of the prestigious award.

Luka Modric ended the 10 year domination of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo last year by winning the Ballon d'Or but will not be among the contenders this year after missing out on the 30-man shortlist.

Messi is strong favourite to win this year after leaked results are listed online showing the Argentinian and Barcelona star to be 54 points ahead of Virgil van Dijk who would have been the first defender to win since Fabio Cannavaro in 2006.

The other awards that will be presented at the ceremony this evening are the women's Ballon d'Or, Kopa Tropy and the Yashin Award.

Both the women's Ballon d'Or and Kopa trophy were introduced last year with Ada Hegerberg winning the women's award and Kylian Mbappe winning the award for best performing U21 player.

The Yashin Award was introduced this year  for the best goalkeeper as a tribute to Lev Yashin, a Soviet Union keeper who won the actual Ballon d'Or in 1963.

When is the Ballon d'Or ceremony?

Ballon d'Or 2019 takes place on Monday 2nd December.

What time is it? 

The ceremony scheduled to start at 7:30pm (GMT) with hosts Sandy Heribert and Didier Drogba.

The red carpet is scheduled for 6:30pm (GMT) with most of the nominees expected except for maybe Premier League stars who have midweek games this Tuesday and Wednesday.

How can I watch Ballon d'Or 2019? 

You can watch a live stream of the event most likely on France Football website or L'Equipe twitter account like last year. 

US audiences will be likely able to watch on beIN Sports or live stream on beIN Sports Connect.

Where is it?

The event will take place in capital of France, Paris at Theatre du Chatelet.

Last year the event took place at the Grand Palais located at Champs- Elysees.
